Four Reasons To Have an Engagement photoshoot

Today I am sharing my top four reasons you should consider having an engagement photoshoot. to be sharing this post in a series of my wedding advice posts. So if you are reading this it’s likely your significant other popped the question, and YOU ARE ENGAGED! Congratulations! Your engagement is a time of excitement, love, and togetherness (and hopefully some margaritas). You are on the path of planning a wedding AND future life together. During this planning phase, you will get a lot of recommendations of things to do. Now one of those things you may have heard a lot about is engagement sessions or e-sessions. So why have an engagement photoshoot?

Every once in a while I have clients who don’t want to do an engagement session. And trust me I get it— some people don’t love getting their photo was taken (I married one of those humans.. hahaha)

Engagement photos are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture the sense of joy and excitement before tying the knot. But perhaps more importantly, they’re an opportunity to get to know your photographer and to loosen up in front of the camera before the big day comes around.

Still, wondering why you should take engagement photos? Are engagement sessions really necessary? I’ll tell you a few of the reasons why I recommend an engagement photoshoot.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME COMFORTABLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA

Not everyone feels natural posing in front of a professional photographer—especially when it comes to taking candid or romantic shots with your partner—and an engagement session should feel, in part, like practice. By having an engagement session, you’ll learn how to relax, feel at ease and even look less tense and awkward in your real wedding photos. That’s pretty important.

YOU WILL GET TO KNOW YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER AND THEIR STYLE

Your professional wedding photographer is an integral part of your wedding. Finding one that you connect with is an absolute necessity. After all, every aspect of your wedding should reflect your goals as a couple. Use your wedding photographer to take some great engagement photos as a precursor for the big day. Not only is this the perfect, relaxed environment to get to know each other better, but it can also be an opportunity to ensure you are all on the same page before the big day comes. Even your photographer will benefit from getting to know you better- your personalities and quirks, as well as how you interact with each other.

IT WILL GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO ENJOY SOME TIME TOGETHER BEFORE THE WEDDING

One of my favourite reasons to have an engagement session, you get to spend some quality time with your partner away from all the stress of planning a wedding. You will be surprised how much fun a photo session can be! I highly recommend making a date night out of it, as you are already all dressed up.

BEING ENGAGED IS A MILESTONE WORTH CELEBRATING– YOU GET TO DOCUMENT THIS SPECIAL MOMENT IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP

An engagement is a milestone! It’s commonly overshadowed by this big event called a wedding which is a whole other milestone! Often if a couple chooses not to celebrate their engagement with a party or celebration with loved ones, then the moments between the proposal to their wedding day is filled with just normal life mixed with the odd decisions here and there amidst their wedding planning. Your engagement deserves it’s own spotlight – and an engagement photo shoot is a great way to achieve this!
